Coronavirus (Covid-19) Further restrictions affecting Close Contact (Massage Therapy) Services
From 14 October, a local COVID-19 alert system consisting of three levels of severity was introduced.
These were referred to as level 1 -medium; 2 -high; and 3 -very high. The Federation of Holistic Therapist (FHT.org.uk) provided guidance suggesting close contact services could work as long as the service could be provided in a 'COVID-secure manner' and the government's guidance for close contact services (for England) were followed.
The Prime Minister on 31 October announced that due to the rapid rise in COVID-19 cases, that national restrictions were to take effect again in England from Thursday 5 November until Wednesday 2 December 2020.
The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England) (No.4) Regulation 2020 (updated on 3 November), stated that the following businesses were to close:
14. Spas
15. Nail, beauty salons, hair salons and barbers.
16 Tanning salons.
17 Massage parlours.
It also stated that businesses that could stay open:
47. Dental services, opticians, audiology services, chiropody, chiropractors, osteopaths and other medial or health services, including services relating to mental health (page 32)
This ordinarily would mean that therapists were unable to provide treatment, however, the government clarified that those therapists who could provide treatment in a client's/therapist's 'covid-secure' home; where treatment was for a genuine health/medical need; if the government's 'Covid' guidance was strictly adhered to; if the pre-treatment health checks were satisfied then treatment could go ahead. It was also requested, that where treatment was for someone who had a medical condition, then where possible, consent from the medical professional should be sought.
I appreciate the guidance is constantly changing and this makes providing treatment to my clients more complicated.
If you are happy to proceed with treatment, satisfy the health check (Form on Treatment tab), can provide a 'covid-secure' environment for treatment, then please get in touch.
Look forward to hearing from you
